Back in February, I watched Ainda Estou Aqui, a film about the family of Brazilian communist Rubens Paiva.
Then I went down the rabbit hole: the historical context, discussions of the dictatorship years among people who actually support the dictatorship, and eventually more or less got it out of my system.
And then I met Fernando Brutto, a figure from Rio’s BDSM scene, and we agreed to make something together.
There was one problem: he doesn’t fit my style at all.
And I don’t fit his.
So clearly, we needed a plot.
And that’s when I had the idea of playing around with what happened to be a very fashionable subject that year.
